Danilo claims that Juventus teammate Cristiano Ronaldo has insisted that Brazil would have won five more World Cups had he been playing for them.

Brazil's last World Cup success came in 2002 when their squad boasted legendary talents like Roberto Carlos, Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima and Ronaldinho.

Speaking to Goal, Danilo said that he welcomed his reunion with Ronaldo at Juventus and opened up about the Portuguese superstar's bold World Cup claim.

"I knew him from our time at Real Madrid and it was nice to be back with him at Juve," the 28-year-old Brazilian full-back said.

"Along with his great quality, Ronaldo has this attention for detail that really explains the results he has achieved.

"He even told me that, if he had played for Brazil, we would've won another five World Cups already."

Ronaldo, 34, has enjoyed international success with Portugal in recent years as his side lifted the Euros in 2016 and captured the inaugural Nations League title in the summer.

The Juventus superstar has been in action during the international break and scored a hat-trick in his side's 6-0 demolition of Lithuania in their Euro 2020 qualifying match.

And the five-time Ballon d'Or winner also scored in his side's 2-0 victory against Luxembourg and Portugal booked their place for the Euro 2020 competition.

Ronaldo has now scored an incredible 99 times in his international career and is closing in on Iran legend Ali Daei's world-record tally of 109 goals.

However, the ex-Real Madrid winger revealed that he has been playing for club and country while injured, dispelling controversy surrounding his second-half substitution in Juventus' 1-0 win over AC Milan earlier this month.

"Obviously, talking about your question, everyone has been saying that I was playing with some limitations in the past three weeks," he told Sky Sports.

"There was no controversy. You [the media] want controversies. You obviously know that I don't like to be substitute, but I have been playing with some limitations.

"I tried to help Juventus even playing injured. Nobody likes to be substituted, but I understand the substitutions because I wasn't fit.

"As well as in the last two games for Portugal, I wasn't 100 per cent. When it's needed to sacrifice myself for my club and the national team, I do full of pride. I knew there were many things involved in these games.
